Massive march to Parliament on 12th December, 2013---Gurudas Dasgupta

All the eleven recognized trade unions of the country, AITUC, INTUC, BMS, CITU, HMS and six others have called for protest throughout the country in the States' capitals demanding implementation of the 10-point charter they have formulated which begins with the demand that the Government should take steps to curb sky high prices of food articles along with the other demands, kaam kaa daam chaiya, equal benefit for the contract workers, no job cut, no wage cut, no disinvestment of profit making public sector. The charter also demanded a welfare fund to be set up by the government to provide pension to the senior rural workers and maternity benefit to all working women. There was two-day general strike on 20th and 21st February, 2013, government had merely appointed a four member cabinet committee headed by Mr. Antony, which also included Mr. Chidambaram. The Committee had several meetings with the trade unions but had not reached to any conclusion. As a result, another phase of agitation has begun, next will be a massive march to Parliament on 12th December, 2013.
The rising tornado of the trade union movement and increasing unity among the workers is the only silver lining of protest against the bulldozing economic policy of the country. Trade Unions need your support. My appeal to my friends is to come forward expressing solidarity to the fighting working masses who actually produce wealth to benefit the nation but they themselves are denied the basic right of their human living.
